Our Story & Origins
Meji Meji, pronounced /meh-gee meh-gee/, emerged from a vision ignited in the heart of adversity during the 2020 pandemic. Founder Tolu Oye pondered deeply: if the world were to end tomorrow, what legacy would she regret not pursuing? From this reflection, Meji Meji was born — a testament to courage, creativity, and unwavering faith.
Tolu Oye, a graduate of the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT), inherited her craft from her mother, a skilled fashion apprentice. Her upbringing steeped in Black culture, from vintage African-American styles to vibrant West African textiles and the rhythms of Juju music, profoundly influenced her creative journey. With Meji Meji, Tolu set out to weave a tapestry that honors and celebrates Nigerian heritage through the lens of Black identity.
